Schools Provide Free Water, More is Needed to Encourage Consumption

A new study reveals that most schools across the nation are complying with USDA’s requirement to offer free, potable drinking water to students participating in the National School Lunch Program. Drinking fountains were the most commonly cited strategy used in providing water in the cafeteria. Although many schools rely on drinking fountains, it is unclear whether fountains are meeting the needs of all students during lunchtime.

USDA Adds Water to the Lunch Line

Students are just not drinking enough water, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But starting today students can expect to see increased access to free potable water wherever school meals are served.
